Just Cook Basic participants finished class with the Grocery Store Challenge.
Participants in Just Cook Basic completed their class with the Grocery Store Challenge. They have been working hard to learn basic cooking skills including poaching and blanching, knife skills, and braising. They have also learned how to make healthy food choices and how to read nutrition labeling.
For their final class, we sent them to Hy-Vee on 23rd and challenged them to find ingredients to make a healthy meal for a family of four–under $10. Participants chose chicken to bake, frozen broccoli, and frozen corn to stretch their budget while eating well.
Every participant received a cooking book full of recipes to help them eat nutritiously for about $4 a day.
