KitchenWorks is a professional, industry-inspired culinary class designed to give students the skills necessary to gain employment in a restaurant or institution in a very short period of time.
KitchenWorks provides adults with the culinary and life skills training needed to pursue a sustainable career in the food industry. Students who enroll in the program gain valuable “hands-on” experience in a one week intensive, learning & assisting in meal prep with Chef Rick Martin.
Our one week intensive program is provided at no charge and designed to assist our students with barriers that would prevent them from achieving success while enrolled. Students attend classes Monday through Friday, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.mduring the week of October 9th. Upon graduation, students will receive a knife kit and certificate of completion.
Within the curriculum of KitchenWorks, students experience every aspect of the food service industry, from starting with an introduction to a commercial kitchen, inventory & cost control, staffing and training, learn culinary mathematics, basic cooking techniques, presentation and baking skills, knife handling basics.
Once students complete the one week intensive, they will be able to put their skills to the test right here in Lawrence. The job placement assistance program helps guide students on the path to gainful employment as they approach graduation. KitchenWorks will also track students’ progress and milestones after graduation for one year, and assists them with continued job placement.
