Kansas Heat Share – This assistance program provides cash grants and payments that can be used towards paying heating bills and repairs for air conditioning and assistance can go towards paying natural gas, propane, electricity, heating fuel oil or wood bills throughout the state of Kansas. The elderly and disabled are given priority where funds are limited when applying for aid. Call 1-800-336-4547

Weatherization Assistance Programs, Free to qualified homeowners and renters. The programs were created primarily to help lower and moderate income households save on their energy, utility, and heating bills. On average, weatherization programs will reduce heating bills by almost 35% and the program will lower overall energy bills by about $400 per year. City of Lawrence Housing Programs, The City of Lawrence offers the following grant and loan programs for low-income homeowners.

1) Comprehensive Housing Rehabilitation – This program provides deferred or installment loans to income eligible homeowners to borrow up to $25,000 to have necessary housing rehabilitation completed. For additional information contact Tony Hoch at 832-3113 or Jessica Roberts at 832-3114.

2) Emergency & Furnace Loans- the City offers an emergency loan program that can provide up to $5,000 for emergency repairs or furnace replacement. Mobile home owners may access up to $2,500. 3) Weatherization Grants – beginning August 1, 2013 to apply for the program through City of Lawrence.

4) First Time Homebuyer Assistance Program, The City of Lawrence’s First Time Homebuyer Assistance Program is funded under the City’s annual allocation of HOME funds from HUD. The program provides financial assistance to low and moderate-income households in the purchase of their first home. Assistance is available to qualified Lawrence homebuyers in the form of a 0% deferred loan forgiven in five years for up to 3% of the home’s purchase price to assist with down payment and closing costs. 5) Emergency Program for the Elderly and Disabled, This Program is offered to low and moderate income elderly and disabled homeowners throughout the City of Lawrence who have deferred maintenance needs that have not been addressed because of limited income. CHILDREN SCHOOL SUPPLIES & SHOES

School Kits, June/July Sign-up, School supplies and backpacks for K-12 students and shoes for K-3 students. Qualification is a match for free and reduced lunch programs at schools. Ballard and Penn House will process applications, inquire during June.

SUMMER BREAKFAST & LUNCH PROGRAM

SCHOOLS SUMMER FOOD PROGRAMS, (785) 832-5000, June – August, Summer food program supplying meals to children 18 & under FREE and Adults $3.35/meal at the local Elementary, Middle and High Schools in Lawrence, KS. Please call for available locations and hours.
