This week school is out and summer unofficially begins. It also means regular meals come to an end for two in five children in our community. While some children in our community look forward to camp and summer vacations, others are at risk of going hungry.
That’s why this time of year your donations to Just Food mean so much to Douglas County families facing hunger. Without school breakfast and lunches, a family with two children will need to provide upwards of 80 additional meals each month. Over 70% of the parents, we serve tell us that they regularly skip meals to ensure there’s enough food for others in their household. Providing additional meals during the summer is simply not possible.
As a fellow member of this community, I invite you to help us fill the gap for children and families who will go without this summer. Your donation will do so much more than just put food on the table. Nutritious meals impact the health, well-being, learning, and development of a child. When you feed a child, you make an investment in their future and our community.
Let’s make feeding the children of Douglas County our priority this summer!
