On Saturday, May 11, 2019, Just Food is partnering with the National Association of Letter Carriers Local Branch 104 and the National Rural Letter Carriers to Stamp Out Hunger. The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will be held across America to help provide assistance to Americans who are struggling with hunger. Last year, Douglas County collected 20,000 lbs. of food and we need Douglas County residents to help to surpass that goal. The Food Drive effort is the nation’s largest single-day drive. In 2018, 71 million pounds of food were collected.
Letter carriers will provide residents with bags and information about Stamp Out Hunger the week of the food drive. They request that residents fill any bag with non-perishable food and leave it by your mailbox. They will pick up the bags when they deliver your mail on May 11th.
Over 19,000 people in Douglas County need food assistance so we need everyone’s help to make sure no one goes to bed hungry.
The food collected will be distributed by Just Food and our 29+ partner agencies. Every food item donated will stay local.
Most needed items include:
- Canned vegetables
- Canned fruit
- Canned meat
- Peanut butter
- Canned beans
- CerealThe NALC Local Branch 104 and The National Rural Letter Carriers Association are committed to making our community a better place and Just Food is honored to partner with them again this year to Stamp Out Hunger.
